We flew out Monday morning and arrived in Hawaii before noon. We picked up our cute little rental car:
And then we headed off to Bellows Air Force Base where we were camping for the week.
The first picture is the very first view of water I got as we were driving to our site.
On the way Cor wanted to stop at this poke place right outside of base. He's been talking about this place since his visit last year and I honestly think it's the only reason he wanted to go back! So we cruise up... And this is what we see...
I felt so bad for Cor.. He was so disappointed!!! Not a great start.. But things shall turn around!
We of course head to the beach and this place was basically all ours!
We played in the water the whole afternoon, set up camp, and got some groceries for the week.
The next day we woke up SUPER early because of the time difference.. Hence the sunrise below...
Then we drove near the south side of the island and did some exploring
Viewpoint we stopped at
We stopped at sandy beach, which is actually a rock beach (ha ha)! The rocks were covered in crabs and it totally freaked me out. So it was beautiful, but we didn't stay long =]
Then we headed to downtown Honolulu and the famous Waikiki beach:
Waikiki was wayyy more crowded and not nearly as pretty as our beach at Bellows.
Next we went back to our campsite for some food and more water time!
We look interracial!
After we were sunned out we went to the Byodo temple that is an exact replica of the one in Japan. Driving up to the temple, you drive through a large cemetery. Well this cemetery is FILLED with feral cats.. I mean they are everywhere! In the picture below there are at least 10 cats, just hanging out
View from the temple
To end the day we went back to camp to our very pretty very empty beach =]
Day 3 began with the huge swap meet that is held weekly at the University of Hawaii's sadium.
We followed that up with traditional Hawaiian food
It was ok, but definitely not our favorite type of food!! (The place we went was featured on man vs. food and also won a James beard award)
Here are our Pearl Harbor pics:
Finley and Griffin on the list of those lost
The week ended with more beach time, a quick stop at the dole pineapple factory and lots of fun =]
Snorkeling fee =]
In front of our favorite Hawaiian trees (hard to see in the photo, but they are really cool!)
We loved these mountains.. Which photos also don't do justice
And back home we went!
I loved Hawaii and I'm so glad I finally got to see it. I would love to go explore some of the other islands and maybe one day we will.
Mostly I'm thankful for a whole week in a beautiful place with the one I love! <3
