On each side of the house there is a 1/4 mile stretch of oak trees leading to the entrances. The older side consists of 300 year old oaks!!
We ate breakfast at the plantation and had to get the flight of mint juleps. Neither of us were big fans!
The grounds are absolutely stunning.
After touring the slave quarters (I will insert photos once I load pics from my camera), we took the guided tour of the big house.
The original owners, the Roman family, lost the property once Mr. Roman died and his wife ran the plantation into insurmountable debt. The house was in shambles for a long time and almost all of the original furniture was lost. However, all the current furniture is accurate to the 1800's. The lavender room shown above contains actual furniture from the last private owner who owned the home from the 1920's-1960's. Her and her husband are responsible for restoring the home. All the clocks in the house are set to 6:30, the time of her death, in her memory.
Civil war tent set up outside.
